Black Catfe – The Black Catfe is a company that has the overall goal of destigmatizing black cats and increasing their adoption rates. A 2020 study shows that black cats have the highest rate of euthanasia with 74.6% of their shelter population, and the lowest adoption rate of only 10%. Black cats are consistently left behind in the shelters and this causes incredible levels of stress and anxiety for these cats. These statistics most likely come from the “unlucky” reputation that is so deeply engraved in our culture. Historically, black cats have been associated with evil and witchcraft. Due to this harmful misrepresentation, people overlook these cats and their true personality is never fully seen. The reality is, these cats have so much love to give and each have their own distinct personalities. The Black Catfe aims to create a safe space for those personalities to truly emerge and give these cats an equal chance at adoption. Shelters create stress, where the cats are not comfortable to fully express themselves. Our catfes create a space to eliminate that barrier and effectively discredit the evil reputation. Our overall goal is to decrease black cats euthanasian rates and increase their adoption rates. Using our cafe spaces, we temporarily rehome these cats so they have a more comfortable and overall better experience while waiting for their forever home.
